Best Topstep Alternatives in 2026: Prices and Rules Compared
Compare Topstep's 2026 rules with six alternatives: Apex, ETF, Lucid, MyFundedFutures, Take Profit Trader, and Tradeify, on price, drawdown, and platforms.

Topstep is still one of the best-known futures prop firms, but its 2026 rules push some traders to look elsewhere: TopstepX is the only platform for new accounts, you must be flat by 3:10 PM CT, and payouts are limited to 50% of your balance per request. This guide sets out Topstep's current rules, then compares six alternatives on the 50K account: Apex Trader Funding, Elite Trader Funding, Lucid Trading, MyFundedFutures, Take Profit Trader, and Tradeify. Each one beats Topstep on something, and each has trade-offs. This article is published by Elite Trader Funding, one of the firms compared. Every figure below comes from the firms' own websites and help centers as of October 2026.
Key Takeaways
- Topstep's 50K Combine is the cheapest monthly option at $49, plus $149 to activate
- Lucid, Tradeify ($165), MyFundedFutures ($209), and Apex ($249) sell one-time evaluations with no monthly rebill
- Every firm compared supports NinjaTrader and TradingView except Topstep, which requires TopstepX
- Apex has no minimum days to pass; MyFundedFutures and Topstep need 2
- Elite Trader Funding and Topstep both sell static drawdowns; ETF's has no daily loss limit, and ETF has plans that allow overnight holds
- Take Profit Trader allows withdrawals from day one in its PRO account, with no payout cap

The Best Topstep Alternatives in 2026
The firms are listed alphabetically. Which one fits depends on what you want to change about Topstep.
Apex Trader Funding
Apex suits traders who want to pass fast. There is no minimum number of days and no consistency rule in the evaluation, and traders keep 100% of approved payouts in the sim-funded account. Apex evaluations are one-time purchases with 30 days of access, and Apex usually shows a large discount code at checkout.
Watch for: there are no resets, so a failed evaluation means buying a new one. Funded payouts carry a 50% consistency rule, payout caps start at $1,500 on a 50K, and the account closes after six payouts. Live accounts are by invitation. Read our full Apex review.
Elite Trader Funding
ETF offers the widest choice of drawdown models here: a static floor that never moves, end-of-day trailing, and live trailing. Diamond Hands and Direct to Funded accounts allow overnight and weekend holds. Topstep, Apex, Lucid, MyFundedFutures, Take Profit Trader, and Tradeify all require you to be flat before the close. Direct to Funded skips the evaluation entirely, and LIVE ELITE pays an 80/20 split on ETF's own capital, with daily withdrawal requests and no withdrawal maximum.
Watch for: evaluations are billed monthly ($207 for a 50K 1 Step), Elite Sim-Funded accounts need activation ($87 a month or a one-time fee), and the 5-day minimum is longer than Apex, Topstep, or MyFundedFutures unless you buy the One Day to Pass add-on.
Lucid Trading
Lucid sells the 50K LucidFlex as a one-time purchase with no activation fee, and the price depends on the options you choose. Its drawdown is end-of-day trailing in both the evaluation and the funded account, and it supports a long list of CQG and Rithmic platforms.
Watch for: the evaluation has a 40% consistency rule, payouts are capped at 50% of profit up to $2,000, and live accounts follow a review after the fifth payout. Lucid's own pages differ on the minimum days to pass, so check before you buy. See our Lucid vs Elite Trader Funding comparison.
MyFundedFutures
MyFundedFutures' Rapid plan pays daily: the first payout can come 24 hours after your first funded trade once you clear a $2,100 buffer. It has no activation fee, no daily loss limit, a 90/10 split, and one of the broadest platform lists of any firm here. Transfer to live is automatic after $10,000 net profit in a day.
Watch for: the drawdown switches to intraday trailing once you are funded, the evaluation has a 50% consistency rule, and news trading is restricted in the funded account.
Take Profit Trader
Take Profit Trader's PRO account lets you withdraw from day one once your buffer is built, with no minimum profitable days, no payout cap, and no funded consistency rule. That is the most flexible payout policy in this group.
Watch for: it is a monthly subscription ($170 for 50K) plus a $130 activation fee, the PRO split is 80/20 (90/10 only on the live PRO+ account), and the PRO drawdown is intraday trailing, which counts open profit.
Tradeify
Tradeify lets you choose your payout structure after you pass: Flex (a payout every 5 winning days of $150) or Daily (smaller, more frequent payouts after a buffer). The Select evaluation is a one-time $165 with no activation fee and an end-of-day drawdown in both phases. Read our Tradeify review.
Watch for: the evaluation has a 40% consistency rule, resets cost $109, positions must be flat by 4:45 PM ET, and the payout choice is permanent once made.
Which Alternative Fits Which Trader
- Want a one-time fee and no activation fee: Lucid, Tradeify, or MyFundedFutures
- Want to pass in a single day: Apex
- Want daily payouts: MyFundedFutures or Tradeify (Daily)
- Want no payout cap: Take Profit Trader (PRO) or ETF (LIVE ELITE)
- Want a static drawdown: Elite Trader Funding, or Topstep's Labs Combines
- Want overnight holds: Elite Trader Funding
- Want to keep NinjaTrader or TradingView: any firm here except Topstep
How Topstep Funded Accounts Work in 2026
Topstep runs a two-stage model. You start in the Trading Combine, its evaluation. Pass it and you move to an Express Funded Account (XFA), which is still simulated but pays real money.
The Combine comes in $50K, $100K, and $150K sizes. On the Standard path it costs $49, $99, or $199 a month, plus a one-time $149 activation fee when you pass. A second "No Activation Fee" path costs $95, $149, or $229 a month and drops the activation fee. Either way the Combine rebills every 30 days until you pass or cancel. Topstep also sells one-time Combines through Topstep Labs, including the Static Combines covered below and a $250K Freedom Combine for $499.
TopstepX is the only platform for new Topstep accounts. Quantower works only by logging in through TopstepX, and TradingView is not supported. If you have built your process around NinjaTrader or TradingView, check this before you buy.
What You Get with Topstep
- Trading Combine with no time limit to pass
- $50K, $100K, or $150K account sizes
- Monthly subscription: $49 to $199 (Standard) or $95 to $229 (No Activation Fee)
- $149 activation fee on the Standard path when you pass
- TopstepX platform (required for new accounts)
Drawdown Rules: How Topstep Compares

Topstep's Maximum Loss Limit is $2,000, $3,000, or $4,500 depending on size. It trails your end-of-day balance, so it only ratchets up at the close. Breaches are checked in real time, though, including open positions. A losing trade that pushes your equity through the limit mid-session ends the account even if you would have recovered by the close. In the Combine the limit stops trailing once it reaches your starting balance.
Topstep also sells Static Trading Combines through Topstep Labs: $25K for $75 and $50K for $149, one-time. The maximum loss ($1,000 and $2,000) doesn't trail, but a daily loss limit is mandatory ($500 and $1,000), resets aren't available, and each account expires after 90 days.
ETF offers three drawdown models across four plans:
- Static Drawdown (10K, 25K, 50K): a fixed floor set on day one that never moves
- End of Day (50K, 100K): trails only on realized profit at the session close, with a daily loss limit
- Diamond Hands (100K): end-of-day trailing, with overnight and weekend holds allowed
- 1 Step (50K, 100K, 150K): live trailing, which follows your highest unrealized profit
This matters for swing traders and position traders who hold through volatility. A static floor never chases your gains, and Diamond Hands lets you carry trades overnight, which Topstep does not allow.
Drawdown Comparison
- Topstep standard Combines: end-of-day trailing, breached in real time, locks at starting balance in the Combine
- Topstep Static (Labs): fixed maximum loss, mandatory daily loss limit, one-time fee, no resets
- ETF Static: fixed floor that never moves, no daily loss limit
- ETF End of Day and Diamond Hands: end-of-day trailing on realized profit
- ETF 1 Step: live trailing on unrealized highs (the tightest option)
Topstep's Payout Paths: Standard vs Consistency
When you activate an XFA, Topstep asks you to pick a payout path. The Combine itself has its own consistency rule: your best day can be no more than 55% of your profit target (if it goes over, the target rises), and you need at least 2 trading days to pass.
The Standard path needs 5 winning days of $150 or more before each payout request. The days don't have to be consecutive. Each request is limited to 50% of your balance, capped at $2,000, $3,000, or $5,000 by account size.
The Consistency path needs only 3 trading days, but your largest day can't exceed 40% of net profit. The cap per request is higher: $3,000, $4,000, or $6,000. On either path the winning-day count restarts after each payout.
Topstep's daily loss limit ($1,000, $2,000, or $3,000) is optional. Hitting it pauses trading for the session rather than failing the account. Traders who add it at purchase get a small discount, and under a limited-time offer, their payout caps double.
Path Selection Tips
- Standard path: suits traders with a few strong days and no need for even distribution
- Consistency path: suits traders who build profit steadily day to day
- Neither the Combine nor the XFA has a calendar deadline
- Adding the optional daily loss limit doubles payout caps under a limited-time offer
Profit Split and Reward Rules
Topstep pays a flat 90/10 split. Traders who joined Topstep's new dashboard before January 12, 2026 keep 100% of their first $10,000 in lifetime profit. Everyone who joined after that date gets 90% from the start.
Payout approval takes 1 to 3 business days. After that, Aeropay is instant, ACH takes 1 to 3 days with a $30 fee, and wires take 5 to 10 days with a $30 fee. The minimum request is $125.
ETF works differently. In the Elite Sim-Funded stage you keep up to 100% of simulated profits. Each reward cycle has a maximum that depends on the plan you passed and rises over the first four cycles (on a 50K 1 Step it goes from $1,000 to $1,750). Sim rewards are capped at $25,000 per trader per round. LIVE ELITE is the next stage: ETF's own capital in a live broker account, an 80/20 split, and daily withdrawal requests with a $250 minimum and no maximum.
Reward Rule Comparison
- Topstep: 90/10 split, 50% of balance per request, $2K to $6K cap by size and path
- ETF Elite Sim-Funded: up to 100%, per-cycle maximum by plan, $25K sim reward cap per round
- ETF LIVE ELITE: 80/20 on real profits, daily withdrawal requests, no withdrawal maximum
- Topstep approval: 1 to 3 business days
- ETF: sim rewards processed Mondays and Wednesdays, backed by the 48-Hour Reward Guarantee on approval
Pass Rates and Reward Statistics
Topstep publishes its own numbers. In 2025, 16.8% of Trading Combines started ended in a funded account. The 51.8% figure you will see quoted is different: it counts traders who got funded in at least one Combine across all their attempts. Of funded traders, 33.3% received at least one payout, and 0.71% of XFA traders were moved up to a Live Funded Account.
These are demanding numbers, and Topstep deserves credit for publishing them. On a monthly subscription, each extra month of attempts adds to your cost.
ETF's Direct-to-Funded accounts take a different approach. You pay once and start in a sim-funded account with no evaluation to pass. Your goal is the first reward, not a profit target.
What the Statistics Mean
- 16.8% of Topstep Combines reached funded in 2025
- 33.3% of funded Topstep traders received a payout
- 0.71% of XFA traders moved to Live
- Every extra month in a Combine is another subscription charge
- ETF evaluations reset automatically when the subscription renews, at no extra cost
TopstepX Platform Lock-In
TopstepX is the only platform available to new Topstep traders. Quantower is available only through a TopstepX login, and TradingView is not supported.
If you have years of custom indicators, alerts, and habits on one platform, switching during an evaluation is a real cost. It is worth weighing before price.
ETF supports a wide range of platforms. Tradovate credentials work on Tradovate, NinjaTrader, and TradingView. Rithmic credentials work on R|Trader Pro, NinjaTrader, Quantower, Sierra Chart, Bookmap, ATAS, MotiveWave, and others.
Platform Options
- Topstep: TopstepX only for new accounts; Quantower via TopstepX; no TradingView
- ETF: Tradovate, NinjaTrader, TradingView
- ETF via Rithmic: R|Trader Pro, Quantower, Sierra Chart, Bookmap, ATAS, MotiveWave
- Rithmic and NinjaTrader are Windows-only; Mac users can use Tradovate or TradingView
Account Sizes and Multiple Accounts
Topstep's standard Combines and ETF's 1 Step both stop at $150K. Topstep's Labs range goes higher, with a $250K Freedom Combine for $499, one-time.
Contract limits are higher at ETF. A Topstep $150K Combine allows 15 minis. An ETF 150K 1 Step allows 18 minis, and the 100K allows 14 against Topstep's 10.
ETF also lets you hold up to 20 active Elite Sim-Funded accounts at once, managed from one dashboard.
Scaling Comparison
- Topstep standard Combines: $150K max, 5 / 10 / 15 minis
- ETF 1 Step: 150K max, 8 / 14 / 18 minis
- ETF: up to 20 active Elite Sim-Funded accounts per trader
- Topstep's XFA uses a balance-based scaling plan
Sim Trading vs Live Capital After Funding

Topstep's XFA is simulated. Topstep does have a Live Funded Account, but you can't apply for it: its Risk Team invites traders. If you are invited, all your XFAs close, and you start with 20% of the live account's capital (at least $10,000). The rest is released in four steps as you hit profit milestones. In 2025, 0.71% of XFA traders were moved to Live.
ETF considers traders for live capital much earlier, and its terms say when: after one reward, 5 active trading days, or $1,000 in rewards, whichever comes first. LIVE ELITE is ETF's own money in a live broker account: an 80/20 split, an end-of-day drawdown, and daily withdrawal requests with a $250 minimum and no maximum above the onboarding balance. Onboarding balances are small ($1,250 to $2,500, depending on the account you qualified with), a $197 monthly exchange and clearing fee comes out of the account, and only Rithmic-compatible platforms are supported. Read the full LIVE ELITE rules before you start.
Some traders do well in sim and freeze when real money is on the line. Others trade better with real stakes. Knowing when you can be considered lets you plan for it.
Funding Model Comparison
- Topstep XFA: simulated, payouts from Topstep
- Topstep Live: by invitation only; capital released in stages
- ETF Elite Sim-Funded: simulated, $25K sim reward cap per round
- ETF LIVE ELITE: real capital, 80/20, daily withdrawal requests, no withdrawal maximum
Skipping Evaluation: Direct-to-Funded Alternatives
Topstep has no way to skip the Trading Combine. Every trader has to pass it before an XFA.
ETF's DTF accounts skip the evaluation entirely. You pay once and start trading in a sim-funded account immediately, with no monthly subscription and no daily loss limit. DTF also allows overnight and weekend holds.
DTF is the most expensive way to start at ETF, because you are paying for the shortcut. It suits traders with a strategy proven elsewhere and anyone who would rather pay more upfront than spend weeks in an evaluation.
Ready to skip the evaluation? Start with a 50K DTF account and begin trading immediately.
Evaluation vs DTF
- Topstep: Trading Combine required, no bypass
- ETF DTF: one-time fee ($357 for 10K, $747 for 50K, $997 for 100K)
- DTF 10K and 50K use end-of-day trailing drawdown; 100K uses a fixed floor
- First reward after 5, 15, or 20 Active Trade Days depending on size
- No monthly subscription with DTF
Cost Breakdown: Monthly Fees, Activation, and Resets
On Topstep's Standard path, a $100K Combine costs $99 a month plus a $149 activation fee when you pass. Pass in the first month and you pay $248. Take three months and it's $297 + $149 = $446. Resets cost the same as a month's subscription.
ETF evaluations are also billed monthly. A 50K 1 Step is $207 a month, and a 50K End of Day is $347. The difference is in resets and activation. A manual reset is $47 on every monthly evaluation, and a failed evaluation resets automatically when your subscription renews, at no extra cost. Funded activation is $87 a month or a one-time fee from $177. The Double Down Deal (3D) add-on cuts the first month to $47, then it's $87 a month, and 3D Three Months is $174.
The cheapest entry at ETF is Fast Track: a single 10K account for $57 (End of Day) or $77 (Static), paid once. There's no upfront activation fee: the first Elite month is free, then it's $87 a month.
Cost Factors to Consider
- Topstep: $49 to $199 a month plus $149 activation (Standard path)
- ETF evaluations: monthly, with $47 resets and an automatic reset at renewal
- ETF's cheapest entry: Fast Track 10K from $57, one-time
- Use ETF reward points for further savings
- Total cost = monthly fee x months to pass + activation
Which Traders Fit Topstep Best
Topstep suits day traders who are happy on TopstepX, close out before 3:10 PM CT, and want a short path through the Combine. With a 2-day minimum and a 55% best-day rule, a strong trader can pass quickly.
Topstep's long track record matters to many traders, and it publishes its pass and payout statistics, which few firms do. The optional daily loss limit that pauses rather than fails the account is a sensible design for traders who want a hard stop without the penalty.
Traders who want platform choice, a static drawdown with no daily loss limit, overnight holds, or an earlier route to live capital should compare alternatives.
Topstep Is Best For
- Day traders comfortable on TopstepX
- Traders who can pass in a few strong days under the 55% rule
- Traders who value published pass and payout statistics
- Traders who want an optional daily stop that pauses instead of failing the account
Consider Alternatives If You Need
- NinjaTrader, TradingView, Sierra Chart, or other platform access
- A static drawdown with no daily loss limit
- Overnight or weekend holds
- An earlier route to live capital
- The option to skip the evaluation with DTF
Ready to Start Trading?
Topstep has built a long track record and serves traders who fit its model well. Traders who need more platform choice, a different drawdown model, or a faster path to live capital have other options.
At Elite Trader Funding that means static, end-of-day, and live trailing drawdowns, Direct-to-Funded accounts that skip the evaluation, and LIVE ELITE, where you trade ETF's real capital with an 80/20 split and no withdrawal maximum.
View all evaluation options or start with a 50K End of Day evaluation for $347 a month, with an automatic reset at renewal if you fail.
